Our January Member Spotlight shines on Justin Peterson, Vice President of Marketing at Sharestates!
Justin has had a successful career in the marketing field for 15+ years and has spent the last 5 years with Sharestates. On a daily basis, he is the go to guy to plan and execute marketing campaigns, have conversations about sales, and grow the Sharestates community. He started his career in digital marketing almost 20 years ago when it was still brand new, and Justin said he loves being able to be both analytical and creative with digital marketing campiagns. What you may not know about Justin is he will travel for a good pastrami sandwich and will give you a recommendation for every borough of New York City! He says he has lived in three of the five boroughs for most of his adult life but he claims he’s never set foot in Staten Island and there isn’t any good pastrami sandwiches there… SHOTS FIRED!

How long have you been an AAPL member?
Since 2018. The year I joined Sharestates.
What AAPL benefit do you MOST value?
As a company, we benefit the most from AAPL’s annual conference. It’s not only a great networking and business development opportunity, but it’s also an important time to showcase our team’s thought leadership. Personally, I also benefit greatly from AAPL’s industry news and educational offerings.
Why did you become a member?
As an organization, we are aligned on the overarching mission to support, protect, and foster the private lending industry. As industry veterans, we have a shared responsibility to educate people about industry standards and best practices. Also, we get a discount on AAPL’s annual conference 😉
What is your favorite AAPL memory?
Working with the AAPL this year on a cover issue featuring our CFO, Tina DelDonna, and our general counsel, Amy Doshi. Both Tina and Amy embody the importance of building a diverse team, encouraging mentorship, and creating a supportive environment for women in leadership roles at Sharestates. Hosting AAPL’s photographer in our New York office for the cover photo shoot was an exciting honor for the entire Sharestates team.
Why did you decide to enter the private lending profession?
I started my career in digital marketing working for large, global advertising agencies on Madison Avenue nearly 20 years ago. At that time, digital marketing was still in its infancy, but it was growing and evolving quickly. Traditional brand advertising and direct marketing were overlapping in new and exciting ways online. I loved being part of that convergence and being able to provide digital marketing metrics to clients in ways they had not been able to measure in the past. Fast forward to today, I continue to love being able to exercise both sides of my brain, both creatively and analytically with digital marketing campaigns.
What are some accomplishments you are particularly proud of?
I’m most proud of helping small to medium-sized businesses grow through the adoption of leading marketing and sales technology solutions. Digital marketing can now be managed using platforms purpose-built for small, multidisciplinary marketing teams that used to require large, specialized teams. We can level the playing field by leveraging technology to compete against larger established companies.
What is your favorite book, and why?
“The Art of War” by Sun Tzu. Just kidding. I appreciate a good laugh. “Me Talk Pretty One Day” by David Sedaris is a personal favorite.
