Our November Member Spotlight shines on Ketan Parekh, managing director with Toorak Capital Partners.

With over 25 years in the business, Parekh is not just a successful businessman, he is a family guy. In his free time, he enjoys spending as much time with his family as possible as well as catching the latest movie. Since he watches movies in his downtime, we can only assume that the original Top Gun was his inspiration to become a private pilot.

How long have you been an AAPL member?

Since 2020.

What AAPL benefit do you MOST value?

There’s so much to value in this membership. Particularly, I look forward to the annual conferences and webinar sessions. In addition to being insightful, I am grateful for the networking and connection with fellow members that comes along with participation, as well.

Why did you become a member?

Upon joining Toorak Capital Partners in September 2020, I was encouraged by my new co-workers to immerse myself in all the company’s AAPL membership had to offer. After participating in events and taking advantage of its resources for two years, I have a deeper appreciation for the value of our AAPL membership and appreciate AAPL’s service as an advocate for our industry at large.

What is your favorite AAPL memory?

I look forward to AAPL’s annual conference each year. Each one is better than the last, with informative programming, and great networking opportunities with industry colleagues.

Why did you decide to enter the private lending profession?

I’ve always enjoyed finance, and after a long and successful career in the financial sector, I entered private lending after the financial crisis. Prior to Toorak, I was a Managing Director at Invictus Capital Partners, an alternative mortgage credit fund, where I oversaw the business purpose loan business. Earlier in my career, I was Partner & Managing Director at Window Rock Capital Partners, as well as a Managing Director at Premium Point Investments and a Director with Bank of America Merrill Lynch.

What are some accomplishments you are particularly proud of?

I’m proud that, since inception, Toorak Capital Partners has provided more than $9.1 billion in capital and funded over 25,000 business-purpose loans. Toorak-funded projects have renovated, stabilized or provided rental housing for close to 40,000 families to date, which averages at approximately 1,000 families per month in 2021 alone. To date, we’ve also issued $3.1 billion in securitizations across eleven deals.

What is your favorite book, and why?

Although I usually opt for movie adaptations, one book that has made a lasting impact on me is “The Firm” by Josh Grisham. I enjoy thrillers, and in particular legal thrillers, and liked how “The Firm” delved into both tax law and trial law.
