Tim Boord, managing director of Navigator Private Capital, grew up picking crabs and shucking oysters in Maryland’s Chesapeake Bay area. He still finds time to get to his beloved Baltimore Orioles games, fondly recalling watching America’s greatest pastime at the now-demolished Memorial Stadium and avidly following Iron Man Cal Ripken’s career.

How long have you been an AAPL member?
Although I just joined AAPL this year, I have been active in the mortgage and real estate industry for over 25 years. I have broad mortgage experience including operations, client development, credit analysis, property evaluation, pricing, underwriting policies and loan quality.
What AAPL benefit do you MOST value?
Given the AAPL’s outstanding reputation within and outside of the private lending industry, Navigator Private Capital (NavCap) is proud to be associated with it. Displaying the AAPL logo on our website lends credence to our motto of “Knowledge, Experience and Integrity.” Our listing in AAPL’s membership directory has been the most valuable benefit to us as we continue to grow our business. We enjoy connecting with potential borrowers and lenders alike.
Why did you become a member?
Our membership in AAPL has allowed us to showcase our brand and solidify our reputation as honest and fair lending partners. As a private lender, NavCap believes wholeheartedly in providing value to our clients, and oftentimes offering a solution not currently available in the marketplace. Here at Navigator Private Capital, we have found that traditional banks and financial institutions miss the mark when it comes to serving real estate investors. Presented with a unique set of circumstances, private lenders such as NavCap can customize its short-term asset backed loans and longer-term rental loans to fully meet our clients’ needs.
What is your favorite AAPL memory?
We were gratified to see AAPL publish an article by our Communications and Marketing Manager, Debbie Fales, in the April 2019 edition of Private Lenders magazine. Entitled “Tearing Down While Keeping Profits Up,” the article examines the various ways investors can deconstruct their next project with an eye toward helping the environment and boosting their bottom line.
Why did you decide to enter the private lending profession?
I firmly believe in the power of home ownership to ignite positive change. By facilitating the renovation of distressed housing in lower income neighborhoods, we have the opportunity to change lives for the better. As we expand our reach to new states and new communities, NavCap is proud to help breathe new life into economically depressed areas.
What are some accomplishments you are particularly proud of?
Currently operating in seven states – MD, DE, DC, VA, GA, MN and WI – we are widening our footprint by opening offices in FL and NJ. Recognizing the pent -up demand for renovation and rental financing in these areas, NavCap expects to hit the ground running.
As afounding member of Navigator Private Capital, I have worn many hats. At the start, I developed the customer profile, underwriting guidelines, process and procedures, and budget. I am continually working on customer acquisition to grow production while protecting capital principal with a vision to grow Navigator Private Capital as the premier private money lender in the country.
What is your favorite book, and why?
I have enjoyed many of Malcolm Gladwell’s books and recently finished reading David and Goliath. It was a refreshing read about the often unexpected success of the underdog.
