Our October Member Spotlight shines on Nema Daghbandan, CEO at Lightning Docs!

Nema Daghbandan, has been an AAPL member since what he humorously refers to as “the beginning of time.” He deeply appreciates the advocacy and education that AAPL and its committees provide, which are essential in supporting private lenders. As a partner at Geraci LLP, Nema has served as general counsel for AAPL for many years, dedicating himself to the education and professionalization of private lenders on a national scale. Notably, he played a pivotal role in stopping a legislative initiative in Florida that would have required private lenders to obtain licenses for business purpose loans. Humbly, he credits the outcome to the passionate advocacy of AAPL members, saying, “Thanks to their efforts, we successfully navigated a challenging legislative landscape.”

And for those who know him well, you’ll find it amusing that Nema has a quirky habit of swallowing gum, convinced it doesn’t really stay in your body for seven years!

What AAPL benefit do you MOST value?

The Advocacy and Education provided by AAPL and its committees.

Why did you become a member?

As a partner with Geraci LLP, we have been the general counsel for AAPL for many years and have sought to educate and professionalize private lenders nationally.

What is your favorite AAPL memory?

There are absolutely too many to list here in any meaningful way. A few that come to the top of my mind are the Omnia cocktail hours, riding the Linq Ferris wheel, and so many others.

Why did you decide to enter the private lending profession?

I was technically won in a poker game. You’ll have to ask Anthony Geraci about the details another day.

What are some accomplishments you are particularly proud of?

We were able to stop the state of Florida from requiring private lenders to get licensed to make business purpose loans. This bill was getting pushed through by a local Florida private lender trying to keep competition out and through incredible advocacy by so many passionate members we won a very hard fought legislative challenge.

What is your favorite book, and why?

The Bible and specifically the Book of Proverbs. I have yet to find better wisdom to live by.
