UPDATE 4/24: Senator Stargel withdrew amendment 356486 during Tuesday’s Committee on Rules meeting.

Act to oppose Section 7 of SB 1730 Now

Currently, Florida Senate Bill 1730 contains language that would require a mortgage lender license to transact any loan secured by a dwelling. This language would sunset a long-standing exemption that allows private lenders to extend capital to business-purpose borrowers without a license.

Amendment 356486 by Senator Stargel on the Senate Committee on Rules removes this controversial language, maintaining the existing exemption. Specifically, the amendment deletes lines 433-447 of SB 1730.

It is important that you show your support for this amendment.

SB 1730 is a popular bill that is likely to pass, and otherwise addresses Florida matters unrelated to mortgage lender licensing. Supporting the removal of the mortgage lender licensing language while the bill is still in committee and before it appears before the larger senate is crucial.
