Our December Member Spotlight shines on Bryan Joyce, Vice President of Commercial Lending with EMCAP Lending.

When Bryan isn’t running the day-to-day operations at EMCAP Lending or overseeing a private real estate loan portfolio, you’ll find him with his 16-year old twins. Whenever he has free time, he’s watching his children play high school and travel sports. Although Bryan may never join the PGA tour, since he describes himself as a mediocre golfer and skier, he still gets an A for effort in our book!

How long have you been an AAPL member?

3+ years.

What AAPL benefit do you MOST value?

The member directory has been a huge help to us both with people contacting us for new loans and for us to reach out to other lenders and vendors for help. I’m anxious to attend the conference in Las Vegas and I intend on taking some of the courses.

Why did you become a member?

To be a part of a reputable organization in the private, hard money industry. Historically, “hard money” has been looked at negatively. Having an organization such as AAPL has helped bolster the industry as a whole.

What is your favorite AAPL memory?

Nothing specific. Being a part of AAPL brings a level of comfort to potential clients that we otherwise would not be able to convey on our own. I enjoy meeting people through AAPL.

Why did you decide to enter the private lending profession?

I’ve been at it for 15 years as a lender and have been an investor and private money borrower myself on 2 dozen projects.

What are some accomplishments you are particularly proud of?

75% of my loans are with repeat borrowers. I’ve witnessed borrowers start from scratch and become millionaires over time. My best borrowers are close friends now and seeing them succeed has been own my success.

What is your favorite book, and why?

Great question. There’s always the Rich Dad Poor Dad answer, of course. My all-time favorite is “Into the Wild” by Jon Krakauer. I read it in college while traveling the country and it really hit home at the time. The movie came out long after the book and was a close 2nd to the book.
