During a workout cool-down (we’re not quite sure Loren knows what that actually means), what started as an attempt to “see how fast [he] could go” on the indoor rowing machine led Loren Howard, founder and president of Prime Plus Mortgages to break the 20-year world record for indoor rowing (well, three world records, but who’s counting)? Don’t worry, we won’t keep you in permanent suspense. Read on to find out just which world records Loren broke:
How long have you been an AAPL member?
Since 2018.
What AAPL benefit do you MOST value?
The benefit we enjoy the most at Prime Plus Mortgages is the level of validation and prestige that the association provides. We are constantly working hard to offer the best level of service for all of our investors, and being with the association signals to our clients that we are legitimate and have their best interests at heart. We also have used the AAPL conferences to learn more about how we can improve our lending practice and offer better services to our clients.
Why did you become a member?
I was interested in AAPL because a friend of mine who owns his own lending company was attending an AAPL conference. He told me about the different things you can learn and the certifications you can receive and as our lending company was relatively new, it seemed like a great wealth of knowledge to really grow my company. Shortly after joining we attended the conference together and went on to complete the fund manager class. We had a great time and learned a lot that we use in our business today.
What is your favorite AAPL memory?
My favorite memory was when I attended the AAPL conference. My friend and I were having a great time and it wasn’t until the last hour of the course that we realized we had attended the wrong one. We had meant to attend the Certified Fund Manager course, and ended up taking Certified Private Lender Associate (CPLA) by mistake. We still learned a lot and had a great time networking with everyone, but it is something we still laugh about from time to time!
Why did you decide to enter the private lending profession?
I started Prime Plus Mortgages – Arizona Hard Money Loans when I was running a bigger company of mine. I had someone approach me with this business idea and it seemed like a great way to secure cash flow and show some great yield results. I owned some rentals myself, and looking more into the industry, I saw there was an opening for fast hard money loans for real estate investors. Now we have our eyes set to becoming one of the top lenders in the state of Arizona.
What are some accomplishments you are particularly proud of?
Recently I was voted as the President of the Valley Guardians, which is a 501c-3 organization that benefits underprivileged youth in Phoenix, Arizona. We work with organizations to help children get access to educational, mentoring, and leadership opportunities to help them grow. We also offer financial support to families of sick children.
Thinking back on the “glory days,” when I played college football I was ranked an All American Defensive End, All Conference Defensive End.
Currently I have been really focusing on growing and learning what makes me tick, which has helped me put my life in the right direction.
What is your favorite book, and why?
I would say that my favorite book is Power Through Constructive Thinking by Emmet Fox. I have re-read the book many times and really used it as a guide for my spiritual and personal journey. This book really helped me start asking the right questions for my life and helped guide me to find the answers to those questions. I like to revisit this book and recenter myself. It’s made me a better leader and a better person every time I have read it.
Back to those world records (at AAPL we keep our promises).
If you’re curious (or looking to give Loren a run for his money on keeping those records), here they are:
- 100m: 12.6 seconds
- 430m: 1 minute flat
- 500m: 1:10.5
