Meet AAPL member Rory Cambra.  As the Vice President of Marketing for S.B.S Trust Deed Network and S.B.S. Lien Services he builds and maintains long lasting relationships with clients and strategic partners. We have absolutely appreciated the long relationship we have had with him over the past eight years!

What AAPL benefit do you MOST value?

Definitely the annual conference. It’s a great environment to meet people and learn. For me, it’s an additional way to meet new people in our industry on a national level. Some of my best clients are people that I’ve met at AAPL. It’s a great community!

Why did you become a member?

In the very beginning, Anthony Geraci of Geraci Law approached me and asked me to get involved and exhibit at the conference. I thought it made sense to give it a try and stay connected to the industry. I haven’t regretted it or looked back since.

What is your favorite AAPL memory?

My favorite memory goes way back to the very beginning. There was a select group of us, mainly vendors that would always go out for dinner during the conference. We would have great meals and talk about everything and anything. It was so much fun! Building those early relationships really meant a lot me.

Why did you decide to enter the private lending profession?

I was a loan officer from 1998 to 2010 just when the mortgage industry crashed. I was a crossing guard at my children’s school when a parent asked me if I was interested in a Marketing position for a friend of his. He happened to be college classmates with Mitchell Willet, President and Owner of SBS Trust Deed Network. I met with Mitch for lunch and he hired me on the spot. It was Mitchell Willet who introduced me to the private lending profession.

What are some accomplishments you are particularly proud of?

I’m very proud to have had three jobs in my adult life. I was school teacher, loan officer and now vice president of marketing for SBS Trust Deed Network. This is my ninth year SBS Trust Deed Network and I wouldn’t have it any other way. God willing, this will be my last job!

Tell us something fun about yourself

I started training Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in 1998 and finally received my black belt in 2014. That was a great accomplishment for me. To start something so late in life and see it to completion is just awesome! I still train, and I love it.

What is your favorite book, and why?

Blink: The Power of Thinking without Thinking by Malcolm Gladwell. The book entails how we all make snap decisions about people long before we have all the details. Blink answers the question, “When should we trust our instincts, and when should we consciously think things through?” It’s amazing!
