Our April Member Spotlight shines on Whit McCarthy, CEO at Consistent Capital!
Whit McCarthy has had a successful career in the finance industry for 10+ years and has been honored as one of National Mortgage Professional’s “40 Under 40”. He has held various positions throughout his career such as Account Executive, Business Development, Director of Sales, and now CEO of Consistent Capital, which he opened in September 2023. When he’s not in the office, you can find him on the golf course or fly fishing! Whit said, “If you’re a AAPL member, with mediocre golf skills like me, and find yourself in Charleston, SC wanting to play a round…reach out!” (He claims he isn’t a good golfer, but who can perfect their swing with a brand new business to run?!)

How long have you been an AAPL member?
10 years.
What AAPL benefit do you MOST value?
I always look forward to the Annual Conference. I really value the member network, education, and the certifications.
Why did you become a member?
Access to market intelligence, resources, and a network of incredible people.
What is your favorite AAPL memory?
Jack Helfrich and I attended our first AAPL conference in 2014, right after we started Civic Financial Services. We participated in the educational courses on Sunday, prior to the event. That was our first opportunity to learn from other Industry professionals, in a space that was in the midst of evolving. To see the progression of our Industry as a whole since that first event is incredible.
Why did you decide to enter the private lending profession?
I knew that I always wanted to be in Real Estate, with the stereotypical answer of, “I want to deal with a tangible asset.” I sought advice from some successful real estate professionals in my personal network. All of these individuals advised that entering the industry from the finance side would be the best route towards gaining a a well-rounded understanding of the industry. I jumped in and never looked back.
What are some accomplishments you are particularly proud of?
I’m very proud of what we accomplished at Civic Financial Services, from 2014 through 2022. We built a very successful and profitable business, but I am most proud of the culture that we were able to develop. I cut my teeth in the industry with CIVIC and was able to make life long friends. It’s from my experience and personal development at CIVIC that I was able to launch my own company, Consistent Capital, in September of 2023.
What is your favorite book, and why?
For business books, I really enjoy autobiographies from renowned business leaders. My favorites are “What it Takes” by Stephen Shwarzman, “Shoe Dog” by Phil Knight, & “Unreasonable Hospitality” by Will Guidara. While each of these cover completely different businesses/industries, I think they each identify key traits that a leader must have to take an organization to incredible heights.
